Low water cut out residential and commercial are the same , low water cut out has a manal reset so when it trips your boiler won't run until you press the manual switch on it , usually electrical connection are one pole single throw the main phase will be on one pole which is coming after the on off switch of the boiler , one of the throws (normal closed contact) will be directly towards the controller , and the other pole normal open it only closes when you don't have water in your boiler , will be connected to an alarm bell
So when you don't have water and the feed water isnot running , the low water cut out will trip it will turn off your boiler and the alarm bell will ring you can't turn it the boiler again until you have sufficient water and then you have to reset the low water cut out ,
There is another wate cut out which is called automatic (no manual switch on it) usually it is used for feed water pump control

All limits, high pressure, low water, flame failure, etc are in series. The low water cut off is usually first in the string.
