    What size of ibeam and post are required
    Hi... I would like to remove my support wall between my kitchen and family room.

    The beam will expanded 16ft 4 inches..

    The kitchen width is 12' wide and my living room is 12' wide.

    My joists run into the middle supporting wall and are 2x8 construction.

    My house is a two storey and the wall that I want to remove is on the main level.

    What size of beam do I require and what size of steel post are require.

    You will need the plans from a certified architect or construction engineer. They will be able to tell you what size beam you need and that it must be supported down to the footing.

    This will be a requirement of your building dept.
