    Can I get a German Passport?
    My Great great grandfather was born in 1829 in Germany and came to South Africa in 1857. My great grandfather (Born 1863), grandfather (Born 1907) and father (Born 1932) were all born in South Africa. I was born in 1965.
    Can I apply for a german passport and if so, how?

    Nope... if your parents had german citizenship maybe... but grandparents and further back... not a chance.

    Any application you would make would be treated like any other immigrants application...

    Thx, was hoping there may be a way. I still speak/read/write german fluently and with whites in South Africa finding it more and more difficult to get jobs and a build a long term future, I was hoping to find a way to get into Germany on the grounds of my german ancestors.

    Speaking german is a requirement for any immigrant... but you don't get to "claim" citizensip after two and three generations removed.

    They ended that practice many years ago.

    Incidentally.. its not easy for German CItizens to find jobs...

    Also... my Grandmothers (both of them) were German Citizens born in Germany... I don't qualify either.

    Yes, my grandparents on both side of my family all came from Germany
