Is acid reflux and gerd the same?
I was wondering if they are the same.
I was also wondering if unintentional weight loss is a symptom of acid reflux or gerd

The answer is not simple. They are the same, and they aren't. It really depends on what is causing it.
As for weight loss. Yes, it's possible if you must vomit after eating because the food gets "stuck" in your throat while eating and won't descend into the stomach.
Unintentional weight loss can also be caused by other illness as well.

But weight loss would be easy, if you are vomiting, and not eating.
Weight loss is not a sign of it, without this.

GERD, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, can be related to acid reflux. Though that is like saying that Google is related to Bing. Both are similar but different.
Who is having the unintentional weight lose? How much weight was lost? IE, was it 150lbs or was it 5lbs?
A person's weight can fluctuate up and down through out the day, week, or month. It depends on a lot of factors. It could be you're walking more then you used to or a better diet. Small things can make a big differences as big things can make little to no differenc.e

GERD is stomach acid backing up into the esophagus, very painful.

Aye, the usual pill isn't a neutraliser but an acid suppressant. Going through a pregnancy using a neutraliser instead of the suppressant isn't fun, especially when you get blood in the morning sickness from an ulcer. Where as Acid reflux is acid managing to get out and up the esophagus.
Similar things but very different. I get Acid reflux, pop a couple tums and I am usually good. Wife has GERD, she needs a daily acid suppressant or she can't eat. At all.
I suppose I made a bad comparison. I was trying to relate that they were similar but that GERD was volumes worse.

The two shouldn't be related. If this is a concern you'll need to see your doctor.

@ashley, please see a doctor and stop asking these questions. We can't diagnose what you have, but a doctor can.

I echo the need for you to see a doctor. You won't find anything here and trying to annoy us to get an answer won't work. It isn't that we're unwilling to help you but we CAN'T help. We want to and the best we can do is to tell you to see a doctor.
The weight lose isn't anything to be worried about unless you only weight 100lbs, and even then that isn't unusual.

You lost 8 pounds? How long did it take you to lose it? A day? A week? A month?

Based on her other threads, it sounds like this happened in a span of 5 months. Eight pounds in 5 months is not something I'd be concerned about.
