Employee driving company truck and it was turned in stolen
My son was driving a company truck. He was going to be let go but had not received notice or paycheck. The company turned the truck in as stolen. My son was pulled over in a different state coming back from a job there. They did a felony stop putting him on the ground under gunpoint, His wife and 3 yr old son were with him. The police gave the son's family a ride to hotel because charges were dropped or something. The company he worked for paid for a room and was getting bus fare for him and his family. Does any of this sound right?

Sounds like someone in the office screwed up and reported the truck as stolen. The company is trying to make up for it by paying for his room and transport home.

Of course it doesn't sound 'right' but that means nothing. The story is very vague about if/when/how he was let go, why he had his wife and child with him (probably not allowed), and if maybe he was wandering off track with them, or not answering calls, or he did something wrong at the job out of state. Maybe he was ordered to leave the truck at the job. We don't know! He's not here.

If the truck was turned in as stolen, yes, a felony stop is correct procedure.

I wonder if he had "quit the job" but took the truck home without permission maybe ? So it was reported stolen ?

He had not been told he was let go but he knew he was going to be. He was not off the path. ( the truck is a company pickup truck w/back seat) he still has not been told why or anything. His personal car is at the shop and that was where he was going. He was not arrested, the truck was not stolen, but it was turned in as stolen. The company knew he was going to get his car.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. You want to know if this sounds right? No! Not on either end. If he wasn't fired yet, and he was using the truck for work, then why was it reported stolen? But, in the same context, if he was working, and using the truck for work, why were his wife and child with him?

What exactly is your question? In the end, according to your post, no charges were filed, he was taken to a hotel which the company paid for, and he's not out any money, or being charged with anything.

So what is your legal question? I don't see an issue here, other than his wife and child being in a company vehicle while he was supposedly working.

What do you need help with? Please be clear, we can only go by what you write, we can't read minds.
