Wisdom Tooth Out Yesterday. Post Surgery Advice.
    Hey there.

I had one of my wisdom teeth out at the emergency dentist yesterday (Sunday) morning. I have a dental mirror here at home with me and can see the blood clot formed on top of the hole.

I didn't really get any aftercare advice besides don't smoke for 24 hours. I've been cleaning my teeth as normal very carefully and very gently washing my mouth out with sensodyne non-alchol mouthwash.

Any other things I should watch out for/keep in check?

I get anxiety and paranoia and I've managed to get myself worked up about a simple tooth extraction healing process... I really don't like the idea of getting a dry socket or having any further complications.

Any advice from a professional/people that have dealt with the healing process before would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Joe

Are you a smoker? You should wait more than 24 hours. I'd wait 4 days. Get a patch or e-cig.
Salt water is a better mouthwash, but maybe non-alcohol ones are OK. What are the ingredients? If sodium chloride - that's salt. Is the rest color and flavor?
Keep peering at the gum to make sure food isn't caught. Look for red gum, sign of infection.
    That's about it.

Don't drink out of a straw, and no hot liquids. Make sure you are careful to eat only soft foods and try to stay away from that side of your mouth.

The 2 before me gave you excellent help already but I wanted to put this out there...

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was told 4 days no smoking. Sooner than that and you can have issues like dry socket. I actually took this time to quit a 20 year smoking habit. I figured I could go 4 days, let's see if I can do 5... then 6... now it's been 9 years.

I was told to rinse a few times a day with salt water.

    No straws.

    Soft food.

    Cheers guys.

Its now just got 48 hours since the extraction the blood clot is still in the socket, I'v been very careful with eating/drinking etc. Been cleaning my teeth as usual but very gently near the area of extraction.

This is the mouthwash I have been using, Sensodyne Pronamel Mouth Rinse | Pronamel Daily

Ill switch it up to warm salt water today to be sure though.

I have been smoking, but very carefully, and only a few (4/5) a day as opposed to my normal habit.

No pain at all so far, the area of extraction does get a bit sore towards to the end of the day though. Ill keep just being really careful with it and see what happens I guess.

Cheers for the responses guys, gives me a bit o' peace of mind.

Any idea of the overall healing time for something like this?
And when roughly will the clot fall out by itself so I don't panic myself?

I guess pain is the indicator if something is wrong.

    Cheers again.
