EXTREME PAIN in lower abdomen went to hospital
so as it says - I had severe lower abdominal pain for 2 days before I finally couldn't take it as it got substantially worse. I went to the local hospital was checked out and admitted. They were concerned it was appendix that needed out. I did blood-work and my white blood count was up. They did an MRI/CATSCAN can't remember which... anyway they saw a cloudiness near my ovary... I guess an infection. I was admitted to surgical floor and given antibiotics through IV. I thought they were going to take out my appendix-- after a week of hospital and antibiotics they said they were discharging me it was just an infection in my left ovary and that's it!
That's it? But why? Canadian health care is great don't get me wrong but with the lack of doctors and nurses being your primary caregivers they just don't seem to explain the why and how. They get orders from the Doctor and follow through. I was still told it was just an infection it was okay. When I went for my follow up they said does your stomach hurt no okay your clear. What could have caused this? Is it a problem for having children later? Should I reach out to a specialist? It was about 6 months ago and all seems OK.. just any advise would be great sorry for the long story just wondering if you can just get a random infection like that

We can get infections in all areas of our bodies. Ovaries included. Sometimes we never know what causes them.

Your reproductive system isn't a closed system. It is possible for a bacteria to get past your vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tube, to your ovary. Did you have sex in water at any point?

As j_9 said, you can get infections anywhere. You had an infection. What more do you want? You went to the hospital and were treated. Are you disappointed that it wasn't what you expected? I don't get your frustration towards the medical system? Did you not have your issue looked at? Was it not resolved?

    Cheers,
    An Albertian.

I think what might be key here is that you don't have a primary care doctor. You have been to an ER and you have had a follow up from that. Now you are considering a specialist. You need a REGULAR internist, or even a team of nurses/nurse practioners/physician's assistants at a clinic, who do all the work for a small group of (expensive) doctors, who see you only when absolutely required. Is there such a place near you?
