    Keeping dog off couch
    My room mate recently moved his girlfriend and her dog into our house. Which wasn't cool at all. But even worse is that rudy (the moron dog) has made my couch her place to sit and drool. Which is really not cool either. I would really like to throw the moron dog outside and lock the door, but I can't really do that. I have heard that putting pepper or citronella on furniture will repel dogs. Is there any truth to that? I know dogs can be trained to stay off furniture, but as it is not my dog, I really don't want to put any effort forth.

    Besides the effort, it's not your dog to train. There aren't any good dog repellants that you would want on your couch, either, so your best option would be to protect the couch from the dog. Vinyl slipcovers that completely encase the couch would do that. This would have the added benefit of making it uncomfortable for the girlfriend and likely lure the dog to wherever she chooses to sit as her scent is one thing attracting the dog. It's also a lot less stress-inducing than telling her repeatedly to get the freakin' dog off the furniture.

    Your roommate doesn't have the right to move anyone into the apartment, so address that problem with your landlord. And check the lease about pets.

    Both very good suggestions, Just try to keep in mind that although it is irritating it really isn't the dogs fault.

    If the dog is not welcomed in your home, than you need to address these issues with your roommate instead of taking the frustrations out on the dog.

    Even though it is not your dog to train, the command "off" is very effective in teaching the dog not to sleep on your couch.. also providing the dog it's own bed would help greatly.

    You need to speak with your roommate and set some rules. If you don't set rules, than no one knows they are in the wrong. And if the dog is now allowed on the couch, you need to express this problem to the OWNER of the dog. If the owner does not agree to your rules of the home, than the owner of the dog is not welcomed in the home.

    That is how I would handle the situation anyhow.
