Installation single phase 600 amp elect serv panel
How complicated is it to put a 600 amp service in my shop. It's not wired right now, but I'd like to have enough juice to run a welder or some machine shop equipment like a lathe or radial arm drill or maybe even a bridgeport style mill.

Have a professional install a 3 phase if available. This is not a DIY project or even one for a handyman.

Why do you think you need a 600 Amp supply? Are you planning to run everything at once?

To begin, is your shop located inside your home or in a separate stand-alone building?

Also, usually a utility company will only allow one meter for a residence. Next , find out if your utility has a 600 amp service available for a residence!

I strongly suggest that you contact a licensed electrician to do a load calculation to determine what size feeder you really need.

As Brian said this is a job for the pros.

The first thing you will need is for the power to be brought to building by power company. After that an electrician can set panel box.

You need two things for a job like this:
    A phone and a checkbook.
