    What do I file?
    Hi,

I was under an F-1 student visa for the first three months of 2006. Then I received my OPT and worked for the rest of the year without paying Social Security or Medicare taxes. However I applied for my H1-B work visa and obtained it (valid after October 1st). So for the last three months of 2006 I was under H1-B visa:

    - I think I have to fill out forms 1040NR-EZ and form 8843, am I right?
    - What is the difference between local/state income taxes and federal income taxes?

    Many thanks!!

File as a non-resident alien for 2006, filing Form 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843.

For state and local ncome taxes, file just like a U.S. citizen.
