I have just moved into a home and have an infestation with drain flies. I called Orkin and they have told me they have been servicing the home for years for these pest and that they told the previous homeowners to call a plumber. So, I called a plumber and we found a busted pipe in the basement and this has been replaced but weeks later I feel like they have gotten worse! I don't know what to do.

I put enzyme cleaner down all the drains that cleans the slime off the pipes, we replaced the broken pipe... make sure the floor drain has water at all times.

The sump pump is located outside of the home. The drain flies are mainly in the laundry room/utility room. Is it possible for them to lay eggs in the cracks between the basement slab and wall?

Please HELP!! I just bought this home and have already spent A LOT of money trying to get rid of these drain flies.

They are very pesty and hard to get rid of. Look for small brown wiggling larva in the drains too. I mixed up a batch of liquid Sevin and squirted some down the drain edge with a hypodermic. If you can remove the drain cap strainer, in a shower for example, get a bottle brush and scrub away any slime. Hope you get rid of them.

How many weeks has it been? New adults can emerge for up to two weeks after eggs have stopped being laid.

Secondly, are there any other continuously damp spots, such as under the A/C? Such places can become a secondary breeding site. Orkin used to be very good about spotting such things, but if they told the previous owner and nothing was done...
