    Hunter 5 Min Ceiling Fan Install Problems
    I have taken down the old fan from 1976 and am trying to install a new Hunter 5 Min Fan. I have 3 wires coming from the outlet box. (Green, Black, Blue/Green) I tested each of the wires and Green = Ground, Black = 117 Volts, Blue/Green = 117 Volts. The Blue/Green wire was connected to the White on the old fan.

    The new fan has the Blk/White and Black wires connected to the Black from outlet box. Green wires from fan are going to the Green ground wire from the outlet box. The White wire from the fan is connected to the Blu/Green wire from the outlet box.

    After connecting everything and installing the rest of the fan I flipped the switch and nothing. Tried the reverse switch as well as the fan and light pulls and still got nothing. Went back to Home Depot to confirm my wiring and they suggested switching the Blue/Green and Black wiring. No luck. The fan will still not come on.

    Any suggestions on what I might be missing. This is the second Hunter 5 min fan I have tried to install in this location with the same problem each time. The old fan worked fine, the lights came on and the fan WANTS to turn, before taking it down. Old fan is so clogged with dust the owner of the business wanted a new one.

    I need to clarify what you are telling us. Are you here in the U.S.A.

    1) Is there a wall switch for use with the light?

    2) The wires in the ceiling box are Black, Green and Blue/Green?

    3) Looking at the cable that supplies power to the box, is there a Black, White and bare ground?

    4) The wires on the fan, Black, Black with 3 White stripes and Blue Green, correct?

    5) A Black with 3 White stripes is a "Neutral", not a hot conductor.

    So at this point, I would suggest connecting the Black from the box to the Black on the fan.

    The Black/White needs to go to the Neutral of the supply conductor and of course green would go to green.

    What model fan did you get?

    Ok:

    1. Yes, there is a light switch.
    2. Wire colors are: Black, Green, bluish green... no stripes
    3. At the switch there is a white and black. I have not removed the switch to see if the ground is in the back of the switch or not.
    4. Wires on the fan: Black, Black with white stripe, Green, White.
    5. My understanding is that the Black and Black/White wires are to Separate the lights from the fan its self so I could have two switches. One for lights and one for fan. Instructions say to put both the black and black/white together to the black on the outlet box.

    The wires from the outlet tested with a digital multi--meter are as follows:
    Green - 0.00 volts
    Black - 117.2 Volts
    Bluish wire - 117.2 Volts

    Okay, that info helps some.

    I do not understand where this "Bluish" wire comes from.

    Because the wall switch has both Black and White attached to it, that means to me that there is a "switch loop" At the switch, White is used to Feed the switch. It should have either a black band of tape or black or any color other than White or Gray making to signify that this is a Hot conductor. The Black connected to the switch is the "Return" from the switch to the Light's wire, the Black with White stripe(?).

    At the box in the ceiling, the Black from the switch would connect to the Black/White wire from the light.

    Also, in the ceiling box. Connect the White from the switch (and mark it in a color other than White or Gray) to the Supply cable's Black wire to the Black wire to the fan here.

    The Green connections go to ground.

    The White from the Power Supply cable is connected to the White from the fan.

    For the time being, I would cap off the bluish/green wire until we know where it originates from and what its purpose is.

    Can you give me the model number of the fan so that I can look for the installation instructions on-line, please?

    Also, are you in the U.S.A. or another country. I ask because other countries use different voltage and wiring plans.

    All good. I am in the US. Just to let you know a buddy of mine came up with the hidden answer. It was that the owner did not inform me that there are two switches, one for lights and the other for the fan. The wiring that finally worked was this:

    Black to black, green/blue to black/white, white to green
