My husband is a GYSGT I have a misdemeanor will his top secret clearance change?
I got a misdemeanor back in 1996, I was young and dumb. I was able to get it expunged and seal but will this affect my husband/s top secret clearance? He just got stationed in Hawaii. His past clearances have been for technical support, but I don't know what his current job will be, he just left.

Over-use of acronyms is problematic. What is a GYSGT?

    Oh. Gunnery Sergeant?

The answer may depend on what you were convicted of.

That depends on a lot of things... such as exactly what your offense was... and exactly what Clearance he's got... (its surprisingly complicated and very dependednt on his job). They go well beyond simply Secret and Top secret... like asking for a chunk of cow meat in the meat department... if you see the analogy.

Its really at the descretion of the issuing agency based on their guidelines. Which are not quite cut and dry simple.

Basically... the details of which you or him do NOT want to be discussing publicly...

And without knowing all the details nobody can really give a definative answer.

He however could ask his security office and they can provide an answer... and yes... checking you out is part of checking him out. So yeah they will know all about your charges.

Try not to worry. You have so little info.
Somehow I think your youthful record of 17 years ago will pass their test.
You didn't even get arrested at a political protest.
Aren't top secret clearances rated (A, B, etc)?

Types... addendums... differing issuing agencies... lots of variables.
