The list would be subjective. What I consider a great horror movie, maybe you wouldn't. There's great horror movies from years back to newer ones... there's horror movies that are based on suspense... some on gore... some have a mix. Very hard to say what you would like.

Some of my favorites (in no particular order):

    Evil Dead (original)
A Tale of Two Sisters (Korean)
    The Shining
    The Descent
    The Exorcist
    Pet Sematary
    Rec
    The Conjuring

The Grudge was pretty good... I don't jump easy and that makes me jump every time I watch it.

I saw the 'conjuring' yesterday and did find it quite good. My old time fave is bram stoker's Dracula with Gary oldman as Dracula.

I liked that one too... just doesn't have the jump out of your skin factor The Grudge has.

Another good spook movie, and a classic... was Fantasm. The original... not the sequel.

I liked The Conjuring and added it to my list of favorites because I was happy to see a modern horror film that could have been made in the 70's... no quick-cut scenes... no loud, sudden noises to try to make you think you're scared... no off-color film techniques to aggravate my eyes... it was more suspense and actual "horror" based than most modern films. Automatic thumbs up from me just for that alone.

My son and his girlfriend saw The Conjuring the other day, afterwards, she was too scared to drive herself home by herself, and he had to sleep with the hall light on two nights in a row. Scary!

Do horror movies fall under this category ? And if so, has anyone ever seen the 1963 movie Black Sabbath with Boris Karloff ? It was the scariest movie I ever saw.
