Water leak in finished basement ceiling under kitchen sink
    HELP?!
I have a leak in my (drywall) ceiling of my basement that runs along the tape line directly under the kitchen sink.

This only leaks if I have been running the water more than 10 minutes. But gets moist after 5.
It does not drip or get when when the dish washer is running. Just the kitchen sink.

Little bit of a back story. (prob. More then you want to know.. but my daddy taught me that anything can be solved within the odd details of things, and since I take blood and sell skin care... id like to be thorough... sorry if its boring)

    1. after a child/mother stand off on chores for 3 weeks... that ended up in mother winning due to implementing boot camp drills and taking away a major reward. (score for me)
    2. during the 3 weeks of my children's refusal to do chores during the summer consistently, the dishes were not done.
    3. the left side of my sink (not the garbage disposal side) would fill all the way up with water until the debris and dishes were removed.
    4. the sink would drain on its own once the "crud" was physically removed from the little pull out basket thing and from around the edge of the basket thing, it would drain on its own.
    5. for 3 days now my sink has been clear, and the kids have been doing dishes for 3 days straight trying to catch up in between "exercise drills" (again boot camp) they have to rinse off the dishes before putting them into the dishwasher.
    6. my children have done a "half as...d" job at this and we were constantly removing the food debris out of the sink for the last 3 days.
    7. this morning during the next to last load of dishes/exercise drills (again 3 weeks on stand off) my husband grabbed a cup of coffee to go downstairs for his first day off in 10 days. He yelled up and had me come down.
    8. the ceiling under the kitchen sink was leaking down the drywall tape onto the carpet below.
    9. we stopped using the water for an hour and the leak seemed to dry up.
    10. I started to run the water an hour later and bleached out the sink with clorox liquid cleaner in a spray bottle with bleach.
    11. I ran the sink for about 10 minutes on the garbage disposal side and only rinsed the other side for a matter of maybe a min.
    12. The ceiling got moist, but did not leak.
    13. I took the elbow off the sink and cleaned out the water and found a plastic knife in the elbow.
    14. I did not see any debris in the line, and put the elbow back on.
15 I ran the water in the disposal side and ran the disposal to make sure that there were no debris in the disposal. I did this for 5 minutes. The ceiling did not get wet.
    16. I ran the water again 30 minutes later on the left side of the sink and the water started leaking again.
    17. We waited 3 hours and started the dishwasher. The dishwasher ran a full cycle and did not leak.
    18. I called my friend who is a maintenance worker for an apartment complex and she stated that it sounds like the "main line" is clogged.
    19. I called another friend who is a homeowner.. and she told me to take a hose and run it down the pipe about 6 feet, wiggle it and pull it out, and then run water down it again and it should be fine.
    20. There is a trap door access panel looking thing directly under the kitchen sink in the ceiling of the basement.
    21. Upon removal of the panel all I could see was cable wires stuffed in there and it was not wet.
    22. The water leak starts about 30 inches away from the access panel along the tape line of our drywall in the ceiling.

    QUESTION:
    1. how do I know if it's the main line.
    2. is there a way to clear this without getting a garden hose stuck in my pipes?
    3. is there a way to find this out and or fix it without destroying my ceiling?

Lucky for me my lease states its my problem/my dime to fix this.

    Can someone help me please?
    Thank you! Ker
