My four year old schnauzer is waking up in the middle of the night
I have recently started staying the night occasionally at my boyfriends house. We have yet to make it through an entire night without my four year old schnauzer waking us up. Sometimes for water. Sometimes to potty and sometimes for no reason at all. Usually when we are at home, just the dog and I he sleeps in the bed with me. Sometimes in his own bed. He does just fine. He is even allowed to wander around and never bothers me during the night. I have tried to let him sleep in the living room on the couch at my boyfriends house but he barks at everything he hears. So I put him in the bedroom with us with his own bed and he still wakes us up every night. I have got to have some help here. Getting rid of either is not an option this point in time. :-/. I must also mention that I own my own business where my dog spends the day every day. So activity and attention I do not believe are the issue here.

Schnauzers are pretty astute, intelligent dogs. One of the reasons they were used by the British to carry directives between enemy lines during the First World War.

I think he may be a bit jealous of the situation of your temporary living arrangements. Don't forget HE normally sleeps with you, now he is relegated to other sleeping arrangements, so he is protesting being a nuisance at night. It will pass when he becomes used to the status quo.

Suggest he and your b/f become better acquainted with walks and such to keep the peace.

My vet said years ago that schnauzers were so well appreciated that you have to have two.
