What do I do if a doctor is giving my friend ADHD meds and they don't have ADD?

Basically it's none of your business, unless this is some back alley doctor giving out drugs to anyone and everyone.
Then you contact someone in Public Health or the state licensing board, or even the police.

How old is your friend, and how do you know he or she doesn't have ADD?

My friend is in their late 30's and just got "diagnosed" with ADD. Has no attention problems, is not easily distracted, is a very focused driven individual, is not wreckless, disorganized, has no problem with responsibilities, and is a very calm person. I have know them for almost 20 years, and they have never had ADD. They are using the meds so the can run off less sleep.

So you believe that he or she lied to a doctor to get a prescription. I guess the next question is how close you two are as friends, and if very close, what your concerns are for his/her health and safety. Because that is the ONLY reason to even remotely be wondering 'what to do.' And since very close friends can talk to each other about anything and everything, where does that leave you? Asking total strangers? No, I don't think this is a close friend - ergo, not your concern.

If you are really concerned about your friend you will talk to them about getting a second opinion. Unless you were in the room you have no idea of what this doctor was told, what examination was done and how they arrived at the diagnosis. You don't know what the doctor's qualification are etc. So the only thing you can do is talk them into a second opinion.

How do you know for sure that he's never been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD before now? Maybe he has no attention problems, or any of the other things associated with this disorder, because he's always been on medication for it.

Maybe he never mentioned his ADHD before now.

Bottom line, it's his life, his health, if he doesn't have ADHD or ADD, and he's taking meds for it, he'll learn the hard way that dosing for something you don't have, is very dangerous.
