How do I add highlights to a Auburn red based hair so it isn't dark brassy red?
How can I get carmel or gold highlights on Dark Auburn hair. Do I need to bleach strips with 40 devloper and then to tone it down use a toner with ten developer. Or is there an much easier way to stop it from going that dark red, bozo clown orange mix.

I previously had dyed my hair a dark dark brown with black brown underneath and I decided I wanted to go red and I was told it was best since my hair was so dark to bleach it first, so I bleached it till it was an orange and then dyed it... well the super blonde parts came out an awful faded...
Sat night I colored my strawberry blonde hair - picked light auburn to bring a little more red out. YIPES! Too brassy - TOO Dark - almost burgundy. Looks like winter! I used extra virgin olive oil and prell - no change! Suggestions to lighten this up!
