Some see the plight of illegal immigrants as an obligation to do what ever they can to accommodate them. The illegal immigrants see it the same way even though no one approved their immigration, no one offered them employment or housing.

Now they have added to the mounting bill of billions to deal with these uninvited nuiances

No, we don't have jobs for illegal immigrants, we would rather give jobs to unemployed aboriginees before employing these free loaders, and for your information, we roll up our sleves and get our hands dirty because there is no history of slave labour here. We take the view of the original inhabitants and custodians of our land, not wanted here.

In this country illegal immigrants are "imprisoned" and if released into the community as refugees and asylum seekers, they are given a pension in the hope they can assimulate and find employment. Falorn hope, few do, and they swell the ranks of unofficial unemployed in major cities

I don't see or hear of many illegals in the US imprisoned. I hear more about employers getting in trouble if they hire them and then in trouble if they don't. I guess that's why so many start their own roofing or landscaping business, probably under the table

The people we get here are unskilled south asians, we have no need of mud huts and food grown by flood irrigation so they have nothing to do except become taxi drivers. Those who have skills come as part of an immigration program but these boat people are a blight on several lands and they are the displaced of wars, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka and now Syria and then there are the opportunists, the Iranians, the Tamils. Apparently there are 45 million of them and only a few countries have any sort of intake for resettlement. They think that because we have tamed this place they have a right to it but if we use their methods it will quickly become desert, it cannot support large numbers and remain viable

So there's no opportunity down under? We took in tons of Vietnamese boat people and they've done exceptionally well here. And when I say we I mean right here in Amarillo, TX. We have a thriving community here, restaurants, grocers, etc and they are usually at the top of their class in school.

We took tons of vietnamese also and yes they are an industrous people, but we are not talking about vietnamese who we still get occasionally as boat people, we are talking mainly about opportunists who have the money to pay people smugglers to get on mostly unseaworthy old boats in Indonesia and risk a voyage to nowhere in the hope our navy will intercept them before they sink, mostly we do, by sometimes we don't. Over 800 have been lost at sea in the last year. When they get here we have to accommodate them, they can't speak the language, have no skills that are useful in our economy, and are just dole bludgers needing sometimes extra support from an overtaxed health system not geared to people with exotic diseases and PTSS.

What we have here is an economy with in most cities a housing shortage of affordable accommodation, very limited employment opportunities for the untrained and all the opportunities in the remote parts of the country where these people don't want to live. I expect this is the opposite of your immigration problem. We have an orderly migration program where people with skills can come and we have a refugee intake so we are already absorbing as many as we reasonably can in any year. What we are objecting to is this plague of locusts

Vietnamese can work circles around any one I've ever seen. I heard that Australia doesn't allow people to move there and live. My daughter wanted to move there and was told they do not allow people to move to their country

The way it works these days is we accept business migration, those with skills needed in the economy, family reunion, students and limited numbers of others including refugees. You can't just lob on our doorstep because you would like to come, we have to be sure you are capable of supporting yourself. We get many New Zealanders and Pacific Islanders because of arrangements we have in place already and of course there are the boat people. But hey how come your daughter hasn't just done what many do, get a holiday visa, do a little backpacking and disappear

No, by all means secure your borders, do what it takes, you are entitled to do that, just are you are entitled to repatriate illegal immigrants as we do.

Yes Tal but the mote apparently needs to be larger, when people get sick of living in places like Jordan they look towards us, the promised land, except that we didn't promise anything. Their relatives tell them what a paradise this is and by comparison to places like Jordan, it is. I mean we even have paved roads, detached houses, sewerage systems, transport systems and wide open spaces. If anyone has been to these places where they come from you know what I mean. However, this place isn't the answer because it is not the third world. Under third world conditions it would quickly decline to be indestingushable from where they came from. There was third world society here two hundred years ago and they couldn't rise above hunter-gatherer.

More on the latest piece of Krudd, the plan is unravelling, it seems PNG didn't agree to take all comers, and didn't agree to keep them there and the people of PNG are even more xenophobic that we are about boat people. The ordinary PNG citizen sees no advantage in this plan even though their politicians do. What does this tell you, the fix is in! And boat people interviewed in Indonesia are distraught at the thought of PNG. I can't think why, except for the trees it is so much like home

What Krudd doesn't understand is, if you are rotting in a jungle village in Indonesia, just maybe a nice south sea island looks better. If you are rotting in a crowded camp in Pakistan or Malayasia maybe a nice south sea island looks better after all they haven't heard what goes on in these camps
