    Downsize unit
My landlord sold her property and now the new owner wants me to down size from the unit that I'm in. I currently have a bathroom with only a sink and toilet, a space that is considered a living room and one larger room and two small rooms . What can I ask of him as a relocation fee if there are three adults in my home?

First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on another thread. This can lead to confusion. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

Is this an apartment building? Why is the landlord asking you to downsize?

If you have a lease, and your landlord wants you to move from one unit to another, you can just say no. If the landlord wants to pay you to relocate, charge whatever you want. Its up to you.

A common amount for this is 2 months rent. But its all negotiable. I'm still curious as to why. I can understand wanting to get all the tenants out for renovations, conversion etc. But just having a tenant move to a smaller unit is curious. As long as rent is being paid, it may be to the landlord's advantage to have a smaller family occupy a larger unit. Depends how the utilities are paid.

This is considered a boarding house, and my family occupies the top floor. I would be losing a considerable amount of space if I do as he request. He call himself renovating, but he is just really bring that the building up to code.

How do I downsize pix? [ 6 Answers ]

Hey Guys, I drew up a basement rough in and scanned it to disc. I then knocked it down from a PDF 336 KB to a JPEG 79.9KB. However the dimension limits on attachments are 750 X750 and I have got 863 X1169 on my JPEG. How do I reduce this so I can post the drawing? Thanks, Tom
