I had a crown put in, plus a tooth repair. Within a week I had body aches all over, but didn't know if it was from the dental work, or something else. The next month I had two more tooth repairs--all done with tooth colored composites. Later started having a bad taste in mouth and lips--oily, salty. Still didn't know if it was the teeth material. Eventually, I began having drainage coming from under the gum of one of my top teeth next to one of the newly filled ones. It finally was so unpleasant that I made an appointment to see the dentist. No dentist will help me and doctors are stumped. I believe that the composites have been adversely affecting me, but getting it verified is the problem. Dentists don't know anything about health problems that can be caused by the new materials. They only know how great they are to work with to get pleasing results. Do I have any recourse, any actions I can take?

Um.. the Dentists know far more about these than you are claiming... and far more than anyone but the manufacturers...

And if you expect to do anything legally... YOU are going to have to PROVE they are dangerous... with tests and studies... because the manufacturers and the FDA will have studies that prove otherwise.

If "the new composites are causing health problems" as you claim... why has it not been acknowledged by the dentists using them... why hasn't the FDA done anything... and why is there not a class action suit against the manufacturers?

What evidence do you have of this.. because if it's a problem... tens of millions if not more would be effected right now.

I find it odd "no dentist will do anything". What do you want done... are you willing to make sure they are paid for it... (if even through your insurance).

I also find it strange that the dentist can find nothing wrong if you are having drainage which indicates some sort of infection.

You did go back to the dentist that originally did the work? I ask because its not clear if you did or not. I can understand why another dentist is not going to touch work recently done by a different dentist without cause. First they aren't going to fix someone else's work free... second your insurance company is going to have to approve it in advance because such work typically has strict limits on how much per calender year on most plans.

Yes, returned to the same dentist. They did not check or test for an infection. Dentist that did the work said that there was nothing wrong, and when it was suggested that the new composite was possibly causing an allergic reaction they said they couldn't find anything wrong and it was no longer their problem. As for legal, that is not the issue. The issue is that the dentist will not help at all.

Sometimes they don't even know and it is not coming to light quickly. Class action suits only happen when the issue is wide spread.

Not everyone reacts the same way. For examples, some are allergic to metal and others are not.
