You're testing too soon.
A pregnancy test must be taken exactly as the directions state. A test viewed hours after it was taken, is no longer a valid test.
I don't understand what you mean by "came up with a positive result but the line was horizontal". Does a horizontal line indication pregnancy according to the directions? Why does it matter that the line was horizontal? I don't understand what the significance of a horizontal line is.
You should wait until your period is at least 2 weeks late, then test using first morning urine, and follow the directions exactly, do not deviate from them at all.
Based on what you wrote, I'd say that you tested too soon, and you tested incorrectly, therefore you cannot rely on the outcome of that test.
