My new dog is suddenly afraid to go outside
About five weeks ago we rescued a nine mth old beagle. She is submissive and shy. She adapted quickly to us, our home and our 2yr old beagle. She was housebroken and went outside and played with our other dog, running and chasing each other. About two and a half weeks later, I came home and found a dog that was on terrified to go out. My husband was at home and had put them out like he normally did. I don't know what has happened but I now have a dog that is on anxiety meds and Chinese herbs and she now goes to the bathroom in the house, thankfully on pee pads. I need any advise on how to get her back outside just even to use the bthrm out there instead of in house. She now runs when she sees someone walking down our alley and she hides behind my ac when she hears any noises. Please I need help she is so loving and the two of my dogs play great together inside and sleep side by side. What steps would I need to take. I am beginning to wonder if she came from a puppy mill, she came with no name and I now think she was not socialize. Thanks for any help. Justruth

It sounds like something happened that scared her.
When it comes to dogs, they react to their environment and their pack. When you realized she was scared, how did you react? Obviously you put her on medication, but how did you physically react? Did you coddle? Did you hug her and tell her it's okay? Did you react like a human? Most of us do.
If you did, that's why she's still having issues. The more you coddle a dog with fears, the more they're afraid, because now they think there's a reason to be afraid, otherwise you wouldn't be so worried.
You may need a behaviorist to get this under control. As for the last part of your post, I don't think this has anything to do with proper socializing as a newborn, since she was okay when you first got her. It wasn't until she'd already been with you a few weeks, that this fear developed.
