94 chevy 1500 just quit running
94 gmc 1500 was running fine then came to stop light and the truck died. Had to hold throttle down to get started. Acting like it was flooding. Ran OK once up to speed so got it home. Would start but black smoke and acting like it is flooding. Would smooth out some if I would disconnect one of the injectors for a while. Now it will not start at all. All cylinders have good compression 130-150. Changed coil, map sensor. Tried playing with timing some. Replaced rotor.

Replacing the Ignition Control Module (ICM) should solve the problem.

I replaced the ICM module, the distributor, rotor and cap. Still will not start. Will act like it wants too. Turned engine over to #1TDC and then checked the rotor and is pointing right at #1 spot on cap to check timing chain.

Is the timing retarded too much. Try loosening the distributor and rotating it counter clockwise to advance the timing.

I tried to retard it and would not act like it wanted to fire. Brought it back to approx. point of the one I took out and every once in a while would seem like it wanted too but quite a bit of smoke out of exhaust...

You need to ADVANCE the timing, by rotating the distributor CCW.

I question what would suddenly make the timing go so far out that it would stop the engine. Sounds like a fuel problem to me... clogged filter maybe?

Replaced the filter. Seems to be getting way too much fuel when trying to start.
