    Small switch with high amps?
I'm only starting to learn about electronics, so forgive my confusion please.

I would like to install a switch on my desk to turn my PC power on or off. It is a novelty safety-type switch meant for 12V 2A applications. The PSU of the PC is around 500W with 20Amps, so obviously this little RC-style safety switch will melt or something if I simply cut the power wire (220V) and solder the switch in.

So my question... what wire gauge is recommended for this type of electrical load?
How can I still use this switch that I have? Do I need to install a relay?

    Thank you

Most power supply's are "Switchable". They are made to cut off if the amperage or voltage are to high or to low.

What you are proposing to do is not necessary. The front of the computer should have an "On/Off" switch.
