My dog doesn't sleep in his kennel! Even when it rains... we have to let him inside
My dog is three years old and we got him a dog kennel about four months ago, it is the right size, but he doesn't want to sleep in it! He did lie down in it about twice, but now he doesn't! And when it rains, he starts crying and scratching on the windows, cause he wants to come in, but his kennel has a blanket it, so why doesn't he just sleep in there when it rains?

How old is your dog and what age did you start wanting him in the kennel?
Does it have a roof to keep it dry? Maybe he doesn't like the rain just like a lot of dogs don't like the thunder? Is it a problem letting him in the house when it rains?

Before 4 months ago was this an indoor dog? If not what kind of shelter does he have outside?
If he was not kennel trained as a pup he may not take to being in a confined space so easily.
"Kennel" makes me think of a crate with open spaces for ventilation, is that what you are referring to?
I would also have to ask the question, Is there a problem with him coming indoors during bad weather, noisy rain and wind can be quite scary.

Dogs are pack animals. If he spent his earlier years inside a house with you and your family (his pack) and now has been made to be outside without his pack around hm, he feels abandoned. That's why he scratches on the window -- he wants to be with his pack. And like the others asked, what kind of a kennel is this that he is expected to sleep in? Was he given any opportunity to get used to it, or was he expected to know what to do with it once he was blessed with it? Was he a house dog that was put outside for some reason?

What has been his living situation during his life?

Would you like to sleep in a crappy little kennel with a blanket while its raining?

He might be afraid of rain storms.

Dogs are pack animals, they enjoy the company of one another. I don't really understand the concept of owning a dog and keeping it out back. You can't tell me that you can 100% enjoy owning a dog if it lives outside and you go outside to feed it twice a day.

I agree with the others. If a dog wants to be outside and has a kennel I am all for it having its freedom, but when the dog doesn't want to be outside for whatever reason then he should be inside as part of the family. Some dogs are more outdoor dogs than others and some are more family oriented. Just like your kids you have to know your dog and treat it as you would your kid. Dogs have feelings too.

Got to agree - this was inside dog, and you put outside in a kennel with a blanket?

    This sounds cruel.

If you can't handle the dog, why don't you rehome him?

Kennels are for inside use. If you're trying to kennel train, why is the kennel outdoors?

If your dog is outdoors, why do you have a dog? Dogs need to be with their family. He's crying because he's trying to tell you how miserable he is outside all alone, in a kennel to boot.

"but his kennel has a blanket it, so why doesn't he just sleep in there when it rains?:

Get your own blanket and go outside and sleep there with him. When you want to come in scratch on the doors and windows and see what your parents do.
