    18 month old GS Pregnant?
Our Lexus went through a long heat, approx 28 days, our male Lucky was oddly not himself and insane about it, but he is @14 yrs old.. so I doubted a conception. But, first she stopped eating, then throwing up, I've felt the abd. And it's not full and hard, more flabby, but her nipples are more twice the size as normal. I trlisten for hb with a steth.but heard nothing. Could this be a false pregnancy or could she only be carrying 1~2 pups? He was my brothers, who died 7 yrs ago, all I've wanted was a little male of Lucky as, his health is quickly deteriorating and losing him will be extremely difficult. Too many vet bills to take her for Assn x-ray

So you can't afford testing and you can't tell so you want someone to guess?

    My guess is yes.

I am not negligent to the female, but my male had a cancer removed last year, his very bills are agrochemical.. just an x-ray for her and visit is $200.00 ,and his pain medication, steroids and visits must come first.. of, I have never owned afemale dog and am unsure of just what to look for. I thought that it was a reasonable question , considering.. Of course if she was to have a pup/litter then it's only reasonable to have them seen at the appropriate time.. a ultrasound for a dog is not a reasonable expense and I'm pretty sure that dogs have been fine without then. Humans tend to have way to many and I wonder if that's not what is wrong with generation X... just my guess

Right, my very point. If you cannot afford a pet, don't get one.

Maybe ultrasounds are reasonable. Maybe they aren't. I only know I don't put my dogs' health at risk.

I also let my Vet make the decisions.

Again, how am I going to determine if your dog is pregnant over the Internet?

Why did you get another dog if the other one was so sick that you can barely afford the vet care for him? That makes no sense to me.

Having said that, you were irresponsible and let the two dogs breed. Now the female may be pregnant. A $200 ultrasound is the smallest bill you may be facing. If there are complications (most female dogs have complications) you'll likely have to get a c-section done on the dog. That will cost thousands. Do you have all the necessary equipment to care for newborn dogs? What if the mother can't nurse? Do you have money set aside to buy the formula, bottles, and do you have the time to hand rear? Do you have money for their first set of shots, for food, for everything they'll need?

There's a reason breeders charge thousands for their puppies. It's because it costs thousands to breed properly.

We can't tell you if your female is pregnant, it's not possible to do online. If you don't want to pay for an ultrasound, you'll have to wait and see. Hopefully, if she is pregnant, there aren't any issues, and you don't end up losing her (many dogs die due to complications during pregnancy and delivery).

The very best you could do is to have her spayed. If she is pregnant, a spay and abort can be done. Unless of course you only bought her to breed her so you can get another "Lucky", which won't happen anyway. The only way to even hope to get another "Lucky" is to have him cloned (it's being done now, and costs around $50,000), and even then, you'll simply get another dog that looks like Lucky, not another Lucky. Dogs, like humans, are one of a kind, personality can't be bred, or cloned.

LoL... too many x-rays are causing a generation to be messed up? That makes me laugh...

You have no business breeding dogs.. you can barely write a post that anyone can understand.

Dogs can be ultrasounded at any time to verify if she is pregnant. At around 42 days, she can be xrayed to count how many puppies she is going to have.. THIS IS IMPORTANT! It shows you how many puppies you should be expecting in case of complications.

18 months is much too young for a female to be bred. I'm sure you didn't test either dog for hips and knees... so thank you for putting more deformed dogs on this earth.

If you cannot afford the expensive treatments for your current dog, why on earth did you let them breed? Breeding dogs costs money... sometimes a lot of money, sometimes not a lot of money.. but they do cost money!
