If you have never been in front of a judge but paid the DAs office were you convicted
I was arrested 5 years ago for bad checks. I was never seen by the judge but paid for them through the district attorneys office. Was I convicted of a crime or just charged with a crime?

That means they didn't sneak something in on you. Like admitting guilt and waving a right to trial sort of thing.

You are probably OK... because the people you defrauded were happy enough with getting paid.

If you didn't report her for that theft.. then legally they can put the blame on you... I find it odd if you did and they never pursued it.

I know a couple people that happened to... and they did aggressively pursue them. In both cases finding who did it... one turned out to be a relative who paid up a lot more than the loss, the other was theft from the mailbox... and they will be in jail for a lot of years to come.

While not "current" in the past in areas where I worked, if you worked out a deal with the DA office and paid all the money, the charges are dropped.

I also recommend that you pull a credit report from the three major Credit agencies to make sure there aren't other unreported things showing up there. Accounts you don't know of... etc.

You can get a free report once a year under the alw by asking for them directly from each of them.

You are lucky if the bad checks you know about were all that happened... worst case there are other instances that weren't referred for prosecution.

Good advice. You can get the reports on line for free using this site:
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp , which is sponsired by the big three credit reporting agencies. There are other sites that have the word "free" in their name, but they really aren't.
