    Convert gas to electric
    Change from Gas to Electric

My hot water heater and stove currently rely on gas. I have been told that I must convert to electric because the gas company will no longer service this area.
    Where do I start?

You will need an electritican for getting wiring to the new appliances... and a plumber to replace the water heater. As far as the stove.. if it's a free standing type the people that deliver it can plug it in assuming you don't get it wired up until after its delivered... which would be the better thing to do.

Propane or Natural Gas? Hard to imagine a NG gas company pulling out. No other propane supplier? An easy fix if you have line capacity, otherwise not only will you have to buy appliances, you will need to install a larger box.

You can fill 100 lb bottles that will last a month or two each and hook them up at your house. If you convert to electric you will also have to convert your central heating if it relied on LP gas, and you will have to install a 200 amp service at a minimum if the house is very old. Plus, if the power goes out at any time in winter you will need a back-up generator or have natural gas space heaters on bottles. Look at your alternatives, first.

If they are converting from natural gas to LP gas they will need to change the regulators and orifices on BOTH units or a fire hazard WILL be created... as LP gas has higher BTU content than Natural Gas does.
