We have a 2400 sq foot house and our upstairs water presssure appears to be a bit low. The city water pressure immediately before the house shows 155psi and we have a pressure regulator and immediately after the pressure regulator in our basement shows 63 psi. Our outside spigot at the rear of the house shows 42 psi and the spigot at the front of the house which is about 3 feet away from the place where I took the 63 psi reading it was 58 psi. Most of our house has PCV pipe and I cannot detect any leaks anywhere - why do the pressure readings vary so much ?

Are you taking these readings with water running, or with no water at all running? If no water running, you should have the same reading everywhere (so the different reading would be strange indeed). If you are taking the reading with another faucet running, you will get different readings at different locations due to pipe run, size, type of material, etc. As to the low water pressure upstairs, it depends on how high the upstairs is, you lose roughly 4.33 pounds of pressure for every ten feet of height. Also, are you seeing low pressure at every fixture upstairs, or just one or two fixtures? I would start by checking aerators on sink faucets and shower heads in showers for clogged screens or heads. If a toilet is the issue, you may have a clogged up fill valve. Lots of options here. If you can let us know more about your exact issues, we will do our best to help out.
