I trust the cat has had its rabies shots, because if it has not everyone that cat is in contact with is in danger.

My dog tangled with a skunk - killed it, in fact. No question what happened. The dog had to get a booster shot (she was up to date with her shots) and I had to watch her for 10 days, keep her confined (which she was, anyway). I also had to go to my Doctor because I handled my dog, and she had blood and body fluids on her coat.

This is serious - nothing to play around with.

How do they treat cats that have been bitten by wild animals? With dogs the bites have to opened (if they are sealed) to make sure that they heal from the inside out.

Did anyone catch or find the fox, dead or alive? It should not be wandering around and picking fights with cats - not if it's healthy.

WG, and in NY the animals that was (or possibly was) bitten gets a rabies booster, even if it had it's rabies shot yesterday.

The danger, of course, is that the animal - in this case - the cat does develop rabies, everyone is at risk.

It was not just wandering around. We live literally right in front of woods and when we went to take our cats in we could not find him. We went looking for him and saw the fox and the cat.

I do not know of a cat that would get within ten feet of a fox. Did the fox attack the cat somehow? I am really having a lot of trouble believing this story. And now "we" saw this cat and the fox together? Who is we?

And the vet did not keep the cat for observation as is legally required?

She's not going to answer - it's obvious that someone who loves her animals doesn't behave in this fashion. Whichever one attacked the other or even approached the other - something is wrong here.

I think it's time to close before we get more 11-year old logic.

I don't know I didn't watch it happen. As in we I meant my family so sorry. I wasn't in the woods at night by myself looking for my cat.when we (my family) saw my cat it was cornered by the fox.why would I lie about my cat being bit by a fox. I know I'm 11 too but I'm not some dumb elementary school kid OK so will you forget my age please. I'm going into 7th grade. My cat is fine and if you don't believe the story then I don't care. I'm happy because my cat is OK and safe so let's forget about it.

Also wondergirl. I was not at the vet when my cat went. I am still a kid not some sort of vet so I don't know about legal stuff OK.

Quarantining depends on where you live. Here, if your pet is bitten by a wild animal with unknown Rabies status, it's a "watch and see" scenario - quarantine is only done when Rabies is confirmed. It varies greatly state by state and country by country, as some countries don't have Rabies.

Here you say your cat WAS quarantined. Which is it? Either the cat was or wasn't.

Ok I'm going to put an end to this. My parents brought him to the vet. Since he is drinking water and eating and acting normal they said he's find. None of my other cats have gotten anything. And my cat that got bitten was quarentined. The vet said he will be fine. This is what I know. I don't know how quarantine works OK. This is what I know.

Quarantine works by keeping your cat away from all other animals and people for a certain length of time. That would mean keeping your cat in a kennel at the vet's office.
