    How to stop chlorine bleaching action
    How do I stop the bleaching action of chlorine (chlorox) bleach on a chair that can not be submerged in water? What substance will neautralize bleach?

    Bleach is bleach and nothing will neatralize the process.

    The bleaching agent in most bleach is sodium hypochlorite.

    Sodium sulfite will stop the bleaching action - should be available from swimming pool suppliers - used to dechlorinate pools. Vinegar might be quite effective too in a pinch.

    It won't "unbleach" it though, just stop the bleaching action before more damage can be done.

    I was going from a completely domestic viewpoint, as in getting bleach on clothing and god knows that nothing is ever going to repair that again ! Okay, now I know I can run out right away to the nearest pool cleaning supply store and buy sodium sulfite and keep it under my kitchen sink... who would have thought... the lord works in wondrous ways!!

    Hehee, it won't reverse it but "neutralise" it will. I'm not entirely sure about sodium sulfite, keep some vinegar on hand too just in case ;)

    bobolink... where did I give advice on reversing the action occurring with bleach. Once the damage is done, nothing can repair it.
