Pressure switch adjustment has no effect.
    Hi guys.

I live in the country and I have a deep well with a submerged pump. This morning, all of a sudden, the pressure dropped to 8 psi and as the title says, adjusting the pressure switch has no effect. I'm preying that I just need a new pressure switch and not a new pump. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

I thank you very much, in advance, for your help.

It is possible that your tank has a bad membrane in it and will not hold the minimum pressure. What is the pressure like when the pump is running?

The pressure is usually 40psi. It's at 8 now and goes to zero very fast when I turn on the water (which is a dribble).

A ruptured bladder in a pressure tank won't cause low pressure, it will only cause the pump to cycle on and off quickly (not a good thing either). We need to know things like : are the pressure switch contacts closing? Is there a filter before the pressure switch? Does you pump have a control box? Is there correct voltage through the pressure switch and getting to the pump? There are many options here that could be causing the issue, but the pressure tank is not one of them. If you can't supply these answers, it will be near to impossible for us to give you any type of accurate advice, sorry. I would suggest calling in a plumber or well system expert to trouble shoot the system. Hopefully it is an easy cost efficient fix. Please do let us know what is found.

    Take care.

For some reason or other, the water pressure has gone up to 12. That's a flow rather than a dribble. All I did was take two caps off the holding tank to see what was underneath and then put them back.
