Replaced a cold air return grid, now furnace makes a squealing sound
I replaced a cold air grill cover and now the furnace makes a squealing sound every time it kicks on, whether for heat or air conditioning. I remove the grill cover and the sound stops?

Squeal or whistle? Is this a straight return cover or over a filter? Somehow you are apparently getting a harmonic resonance. Try bending the grill vanes a bit to change the air flow pattern.
