I can't stand my little cousin plus we are 2 yrs. Apart what should I do?
He always tries to be in a competition with me because I am smarter than him and older and I don't want to have a competition every time I see him he is annoying and sometimes he even comes to my house but his mother was on drugs and now he live with my auntie so I don't ever want to have a nice relationship with him

Gee... my first reaction is 'poor kid, mother on drugs, has to go live elsewhere, no wonder he tries to feel a tiny bit of worth in this world by competing with his older, smarter cousin... '

But you don't say how old YOU are, and maybe you aren't old and wise enough to see that. It's never too young to start learning tolerance, however. When he gets into a know-it-all competition, ignore him. And please, try to be nice.

But don't you realize?? This is your PERFECT opportunity to be a role model and be able to give someone a lift!! It is sooooooooo cool that he wants to be like you, the older-wiser-smarter relative. Figure out ways to challenge him. Does he know his times tables? No? Then do times-table contests with him and sharpen him up. Make Bingo cards with him out of posterboard and print eight different times problems (9x6, 8x8, 7x9, etc.) on each one of the cards with FREE in the middle. Ask an adult to call out answers and put a coin or bottle cap on the times problem that matches. See who can fill up their card first. Then think of other games, like for memorizing poems or nursery rhymes. Read with him, you one page and him one page. Draw pictures with him on printer paper. Do jigsaw puzzles together. Thanks to you, he might get into a tough college some day!

This is good also for later when you babysit other people's kids. You will know all sorts of activities to do with them.

That's a pretty selfish attitude since he basically lost his family and needs you more than you seem to need him.

Step up and show some love.
