Troubleshooting briggs and stratton 8 horse carbs

8 horse engine backfired and then quit. I have replaced the coil, rings and ground the valves.it ran for 20 minutes it was running rich so adjusted the carb and it backfired and quit. There seems to be gas in the carb but not getting to the cylinder. Any suggestions?
