    toro 20076 Elect.Start
    Hi,

Toro Walk behind (Self Pacer) Elect Start Lawnmower
    Model 20076 - Serial 240082254

Does anyone know what the starter motor amperage draw should be while
    cranking starter?

It seems to me that the starter is a little slow turning, even on first couples of cranks.

New battery, charged for 24 Hrs. still a little slow (I think)

The lawnmower is 7 years old and no work done on the starter.

Yes, I do plan to remove the lawnmower plastic top cover and clean
all the electrical connections, prior to any starter repairs, etc.

However, I would like to check the starter draw, any suggestions on current
    values I might expect?

    Thanks

    Hi,
I am afraid I know of no published spec for this and most others. It does have brushes which are carbon and subject to wear. That said, Toro has Owners, Parts and Service manuals free for the download at:
    Toro |
    And pick the Manual tab.
Although your model is not listed since it was built nearly at the demise of Tecumseh, the appropriate manual for it is at:

    Peace,

    Clarke,

Thanks for your answers and links. Seems crazy to spend approx. $75 to test the starter with a replacement starter.

If all else fails I may consider adding a battery in parallel. I do know that this
Will allow a dead/weak batter to discharge the charged one and also fool
    My charger.

However, there are electronics to get around this problem

    Thanks again.

    Hi,
Yea, I am certified in electronics too and it is an available current issue since the starter will have a deeper current pool to draw from. Did you notice at the Toro site the whole bottom cap comes as a unit? That includes brushes.
    Peace,

    Clarke,

Yes I did see that. I saw that prior to posting.. I believe I found the end cap for approx.$35.00 with brushes.

I did not see that the brushes could be purchased separately.

I was an Electronics tech in the Army, many years ago.

I might take the cap off the starter for an inspection.

As I previously stated, I'll be checking all the electrical connections
Prior to going into the starter..

A lawnmower shop once told me they could check the amps draw on the starter but what do they compare it to!

    Thanks again..

    Bob
