    Griswold shallow well jet pump
Ok I guess my well pump stopped working. So my new question is can my old pump be rebuilt? I ask because we seem to live in such a disposable world that the pumps sold at the large home improvement stores seem to get pretty low ratings on how long they last (most just a few years). If these are rebuildable where would I look to find someone who fixes them

If it is just the pump itself that needs repair, then that is not a big job and you can do it yourself. If it is the motor, then that can be a different story. You might try giving these people a call. They handle Griswold pumps and parts.

Anything can be rebuilt and repaired. It's just sometimes it's cheaper to replace. Having said that what's wrong with yours? Back to you. Tom

Not sure but all of the sudden no water went to basement and pump just humming and smelled really hot. Turned power off to it and the next morning checked prime and was fine then turned back on power and pump did the same thing humming and starting to smell hot. I just replaced it but would like to fix this old one if possible to have as back up if and when the new one goes out. Going with out water for 2 days was really hard due to 3 kids in the house lol.

Sure sounds like the motor is bad, but it could also be a seized bearing that's putting the motor under a load. Personally, if I just wanted to have a backup pump around, I'd buy an el-cheapo new pump.

As jlisenbe said, it sure sounds like the motor windings have burned out. If you can still turn the impeller shaft chances are you can get bye by simply replacing the motor. If the impeller's frozen or broken I'd start checki8ng new pump prices, Good luck. Tom
