Hello,
I've lived here for over 25 years in an old house with a small basement built in about 1962. There is an underground water source that runs under this area. When the house to the south was built about 30 years ago, the basement started to fill with water and they had to install a drainage system that pumps the water outside the house... problem solved. We have no basement water problems because it's so small. But they built this house right next to us and they had water problems. The people sold this house to a new guy and he tells me that the house has a sump pump, but there is no pipes draining outside the house. About 18 months ago, our washing machine drains into the sink and then slowly drains... the only place that they could drain that sump pump water is into the town main sewer. Does this sound legal... this is one redneck hick town of about 600 people.

Legal in some and outlawed in others. In my area You can only discharge sewage and gray water into the sewer system, No sump, no rain water or other run offs. Contact your local Building Department and ask. Good luck, Tom

Many sumps are drained into the sanitary sewer, legal or not, hick or not. Not sure how this relates to your slow drains though. I saw a sump pump drain into the pool! Only waste water should go to the sanitary side.

Ha, first off, I love the fact that you are proud enough to call yourself a redneck hick (must be if you have lived in the town for 25 years, just can't be in a redneck town that long without some of it rubbing off, you know?) I agree with both experts. Tom nailed it when he said you need to contact local department to find if it is legal or not, and ma nailed it when he basically said your neighbors sump draining into the city sewer would have absolutely no effect on your slow drain in one fixture in your home, or any fixtures in your home for that matter. If you are trying to get your neighbor in trouble for having his sump tied into his house drain, you may want to rethink. As you well know, redneck hicks can get a bit creative with their "getting even", lol.

In my area, you can discharge sump pump to the curb provided it pumps only "clean" water meaning it pumps no water from any plumbing fixtures in the house.

But Milo we're talking about sanitary sewers not storm drains, In your area can discharge rain water, sump pumps or just anything into your sewer system? Back to you, Tom
