Repair or replace Hampton Model 48-BB Fan Motor
    I have a Hampton Bay Model 48-BB.

The light works but the fan does not.

I gather the fix is to get a new fan motor, correct?

How expensive and how readily available are these fan motors?

Joe,I have same fan w same problem. It is not the motor. It's the capacitor for the fan unit which is housed in the light kit. (Diagnosed by someone else on line). Mine is visibly melted. I received no response from Hampton Bay Customer Service. I'll be looking for a replacement capacitor tomorrow at the local electrical supply house. Check yours. No need to take off blades. Black Capacitor (1 x 1.25 x 2)is in light kit and can be easily inspected to see if damaged.

I also have a Hampton Model #48-BB. The black capacitor is cracked open and the fan switch, which only worked on two of the three speeds, threaded portion which holds the globe on broke of, thus dropping the globe. Fortunately it did not break. Also, the switch looks as if the coating on one of the wires was stripped off and is now breaking the strands. Where can I get parts and how do I replace the capacitor and switch since the wires seem to be sealed.

If it is indeed the capacitor, get one. However, if it is the motor-rarely-get a new fan. Less aggravation and replacement motor will cost the same as the fan. Fans are obsoleted every 2-3 years. .
