1040NR, TN Visa, Social Security, 1099-G
I am Canadian citizen; I was working in us on tn visa for two employer in 2013.

First employer didn’t deduct any social security and Medicare, second employer does.

    1. Who is responsible for social security payment, me or first employer.

    2. I don’t see any box for entering social security and Medicare
Information on form 1040nr. Do I need to attach any other form for social security and Medicare withheld.

    3. How to inform IRS about social security and Medicare deduction and claim that deduction on my Canadian tax return as CPP.

    4. I received form 1099-G for 2012, where should I enter amount refunded to me from California State from 2011 tax return on federal tax return 1040nr for 2012.

    5. If I owe money, what is final date to file us tax return from Canada.

    Thanks,

    1) The employer is responsible to pay the FICA (Social Security and Medicare) unless you were an independent contractor being paid under Form 1099-MISC.

    2) FICA taxes are not normally paid with either Forms 1040 or 1040NR.

    3) There is no deduction for FICA taxes paid on the U.S. federal return. Not sure about Canada.

    4) I believe it is Line #12 of Firm 1040NR, but only enter the refu.d if you itemized last year.

    5) Filing deadline to pay is 15 April 2013.

If you were receiving tax-free per diem and it covered all of your traveling and daily living costs, then you CANNOT deduct those costs on your tax return.
