    Non custodial parent abandonment
My daughters father hasn't seen her in 8 years. No calls to her, no child support, absolutely nothing from the time she was born to keep in touch. He has been in and out of jail throughout her life. He has called me a few times over the 8 years to say he'll come back and it doesn't happen. Just recently, he was released from jail and is again claiming he will come back. I am concerned for my daughters welfare, for her to be around someone that went to jail repeatedly due to selling drugs. I want him to lose his parental rights. Is that possible in the state of Maryland?

Because of long term prison, and criminal record it may, but I would assume at this point, you have custody of child though the courts, and he has no visitation at all.

Getting a parent's rights terminated is difficult. Because of his criminal record, you may be able to. But why bother. Until and unless he actually shows up and asks to see your daughter, there is no need for you to do anything.

If he does show, you refuse to allow him to see your daughter. If he argues, tell him too take you to court.

If you haven't already, you can go to court for sole legal and physical custody with no visitation.
