    Fearing for my child
My daughter, who is turning 4 today, lives with my ex in Florida, I'm in a different state for school at the moment. Just yesterday I hear some disturbing new about my ex's new boyfriend she's having around my daughter. That he is a convicted felon for violent crimes and drug dealing. Now because I don't actually know the guys name, I can't confirm it by looking him up. So yesterday I simply asked my ex what the guys name is, that's it, and she just freaked out. Now she's saying that she won't ever let me see or talk to my daughter again. That's not the only thing, my daughters attitude in general has been deteriorating. People have been saying that she is getting very quiet and aggressive and also developing a stutter, I have been noticing that as well when I talk to her on skype or the phone. Now I'm assuming that is due to my ex's rude and vulgar nature, and again I'm being told that my ex's new boyfriend is a pot smoking alcoholic. So needless to say I'm very worried for my daughter, because her mother is showing that me that she doesn't care of my daughters well being. Now I'm wonding if I should call the Sheriffs office in the city she is living in or social services, both to check on my little girl to make sure she is all right and see if they can find out who this guy is.

If the person who is telling you things doesn't know the persons name then its rather obvious that they are disconnected from the situation. You can not go to court based on hearsay you need proof.

What you can do is that is no court approved custody is in place you can go file for it. That way she can't "tell" you what is going to happen with your child and you have an avenue for legal recourse. So file and find out what is going on. As part of the process you are granted discovery rights within reason so anyone living in the home or that has contact with the child on a significant level can be identified.

File right away and get things started.

The person who told me about my exs new boyfriend, is her ex husband who she just divorced, whom is taking her to court for the custody of his and her son. He knew everything about the guy including his name, but because it was from him, and not my ex, that's why I asked her the guys name so that I could confirm or ignore what her ex husband told me. Considering her reaction to my inquire about the guy, I'm slightly inclined to beleave what I was told. Her ex husband was also the one who expressed concern to me about the behavor my daughter has been exhibiting as of late.

If you have someone's name then yes you can look it up. That way you get confirmation or not as to what your being told. From there you can choose how to proceed. Getting into court is just the first step.
