    Because there isn't one place that has all the information nationally or internationally you never thought was important to reveal.

    You have to contact your former employer. It's way too soon to ask the IRS, and you have to go through a lot of red tape proving who you are and waiting much too long to get one that way. You can't wait around to apply for UI because it isn't retroactive to when you were laid off. (If you quit or were fired, you won't get UI, 999/1000 times.)

    For what is probably the 1000th time, the form for unemployment compensation is NOT W-2, but rather 1099-G, and you contact the state Department of Labor in the state where you worked to get that form.

    Many states post the forms on the secure portion of the Department of Labor so that the unemployed can access and download the form without any cost of mailing to the state.
