    Moen Tub Fixture
My Moen single knob bathtub spout is leaking and I would like to fix it myself. I have never done this before but am quite mechanially inclined. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks, Christine:cool:

I am not a plumber but there's one who reads these posts and answers questions quite often, I am sorry but I don't remember his name here but let me tell you my limited expience, have owned only two homes, neither had a direct water cuttoff for the tub, always had to stop the flow by cutting off the water at the water meter. Perhaps an experienced plumber can answer.

    Hey Christine,

We install tub shutoffs in one of two places.
    (1) in a access panel located behind the front of the tub. **OR** (2) Remove the handle and face plate and look at where the supplies connect to the valve. There will be a integral stop,(screwdriver stop) on each side.
Take a screwdriver and turn then stop counterclockwise to shut the water off to the valve. OR, you may shut the house off at the house shut off or at the water meter Good luck, Tom

    Ahh! Back again I see,

Remove insert button (bathroom) to expose screw.
Remove the screw and pull off handle assembly.
Turn off shut off valves to the tub, (explained in a earlier post)..
Remove retainer clip (copper horseshoe shaped clip) and pull out cartridge with channel locks, pliers, or cartridge puller. Lube new cartridge with silicone jel and
Insert the cartridge with hole on the stem facing the 6 o'clock position, or down in a tub/shower.
Reinsert retainer clip and screw in handle assembly, followed by the cap or insert button. Turn water back on under sink. My company uses Moen valves on all their new construction. Moen makes a "cartridge puller" That will get those stubborn cartridges out of the valve body if you have a problem.
    Good luck, Tom

Everything went great except for one minor detail... now the hot and cold are backwards! Could you please tell me what I did wrong? Thanks again, Christine
