I noticed a burning plastic odor emitting from heat vents
I have a gas furnace in a modular home. I woke up yesterday morning with a strong odor of burning plastic being emitted from my heat vents. After about an hour, the odor went away. I checked the furnace, and didn't really see anything unusual. Turned the thermos down to 62, then up to 64 over the next evening. The furnace did not kick in last night. Noticed the pilot light is out now. Will have to call my neighbor to light the pilot light today. The motor doesn't feel very hot to me. It was trying to kick in, but just couldn't do it. Turned the thermos "off" that operates the gas furnace. What do you think could possibly be causing this? Thank you.

Musky odor coming from heat vents [ 1 Answers ]

We installed a humidifier to our furnace in February. Could it be causing the musky odor that we periodically get from the vents? What is funny about it is that the smell is not there 24/7 and when it is present it comes more from one or two vents only. If that makes any sense.
