    Head of household
    Hello,

My tax filing status for 2012 is single. Can I claim head of household status if I sent money(big amount) to my mom in india in 2012? My mom hasn't been to the US and doesn't have SSN, etc.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

No, you cannot file as head of household as you don't have a qualifying dependent.
You cannot claim your mom as dependent as she is a nonresident alien.
