    Ceiling leak from tub plumbing
I live in an upstairs condo. My downstairs (condo) neighbor just showed me holes he has had to drill in his ceiling. He's had to drain off water that has seeped through from my tub plumbing upstairs. Many of the upstairs condo's in our complex have had to face this problem. The complex was built in 1961. I would like to try and figure out where the leak is coming from. Do I need to investigate from below? Can I cut the ceiling and fix this myself or do I need a professional? What do I need to do first?
    Can you help me?
    Thanks,

What type of tub do you have? Plastic/fiberglass? Steel? Cast iron? Before you can begin a repair you must first locate and pinpoint the leak. Is it a faulty seal on the drain lip? A bad joint in a compression fitting? You won't know until you open up the ceiling and check. Let me know what you find .
    Good luck, Tom

Hello experts! I've isolated the leak in my upstairs tub to the drain itself. We've had several plumbing issues upstairs and one thing I...

The plumbing under our tub began leaking after the tub hadn't been used for some time. I cut into the ceiling from below and here's what I found. (but, bear with me, I don't know the proper names for all the plumbing pieces). Above the leaking joint is a t-connection that leads to the drain and...

I have a question on a tub leak. Our upstairs tub leaks into our downstairs bathroom ceiling but only when someone is taking a bath. Not when taking a shower. What would this indicate as to where the leak is coming from? It seems that if it was the drain that it would leak with both shower and...
