    Resident Alien with Foreign Income
    Hi

I entered US on Jan 19th 2012 as H1-B Visa holder. Before that, I was working in India. So, while filing the tax returns for 2012, do I need to include my india income till 19th Jan? I will be filling the return as Resident Alien as I have stayed in US for more that 183 days during 2012.

    Thanks for your help

If you are SINGLE, you will file a dual-status return, in which case all Indian income earned prior to 19 January 2013 does NOT have to be included in the dual-status return.

NOTE: The dual-status return is NOT FOR AMATEURS! Get professional help from someone experienced with dual-status returns.

If you are MARRIED, you should probably file jointly, in which case all income fron 1 January to 31 December 2013 must be included on the tax return.
