    Diverter mechanism
    I have a kitchen faucett with a side sprayer.I would like to eliminate water flow to the side sprayer until spray head and hose can be repaired.will removing diverter mechanism from faucett body stop flow to sprayer hose?

    No. The diverter is normally open. Opening the sprayer by pressing the lever allows the water to come out the sprayer. The water coming out the sprayer closes the diverter valve which stops the water from coming out the spout.

    If you remove the diverter valve water will still come out the sprayer and the spout.

    Depending on the age and model, you may have a screw on fitting to the diverter. In that case, you could put a compression cap over the (usually) male fitting. If it is a newer press/slip fit, you may be able to use C clamp to shut off the hose.

    I suspect that Brian means you have a screw on fitting where the spray hose attaches to the faucet body.
